Genre - Thriller

Thriller is a genre that uses suspense, tension and excitement as the main elements. The primary subgenres of thrillers are: mystery, crime and psychological thrillers. The brightest examples of thrillers are the Hitchcock’s movies.
Thrillers are mostly characterised by an atmosphere of menace, violence, crime and murder by showing society as dark, corrupt and dangerous, though they often feature a happy ending in which the villains are killed or arrested. Thrillers heavily promote on literary devices such as plot twists, red herrings and cliffhangers. They also promote on moods, such as a high level of anticipation, adrenaline rush, ultra-heightened expectation, uncertainty, anxiety and sometimes even terror. The tones in thrillers are usually gritty, slick and lurid.

Example:

Shutter Island (2010)
Plot: Based in America in 1954 U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) is investigating the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and is presumed to be hiding on the remote Shutter Island
Director: Martin Scorsese

  • i like the way this movie creates its twist, i will probably use this movie for ideas and to help me create my horror movie.
  • Shutter island was a big budget movie but there are thrillers for low budget. So it is possible to create a low budget thriller movie and i will probably use both thriller concepts and horror in my movie trailer.
